Higher Education for Karenni youth
about
Due to the political, social, and economic situation in their homeland, the Karenni people never had access to quality education. Until recently, a large number of Karenni refugees were afforded the opportunity to resettle in the United States. Many of the young generations were able to enroll in public school and graduated from high school. This was a big success for the Karenni as a nation since many of the older generations never make it past primary school. As consequence, lack of educational background and language barrier led to parents leaving their children to make their own educational choices. This lack of support from the parents makes it hard for the young generation to further their studies. Therefore, this organization is designed to provide support to the young Karenni and help them transition to university or vocational.
